Engaging with the community

My approach to politics is to listen first, reflect and then lead a collaborative approach to solving problems and making positive change.

Chairing a Community-Police-Councillor engagement meeting, 22 September 2023

As a Councillor, I always try to understand the reality of a situation by standing alongside people. For example I shadowed our Community Wardens on a shift. I spent a shift one Saturday night with our amazing Street Pastors. I attend events wherever I can such as Rugby In Bloom.

I regularly arrange meetings that bring community groups into the conversation or to recognise their efforts, such as the New Cross Fire survivors and victims’ families, the Street Pastors, or local live music scene stakeholders.

I engage with the community wherever I can and this will be my approach if selected to be Labour’s candidate and if elected MP.
